About the city
A cozy pixel city with its own lofi radio
Lofi City is a small, free, 2D side-scrolling game about doing nothing in the nicest possible way. The whole city is one long street. Every building is a cutaway, so you can see into the cafe, the library, the arcade, the bakery, the laundromat, the record shop, the noodle bar, the apartments, the observatory and the rooftop greenhouse without opening a door. You run along the street, climb ladders to the rooftops, and hop on a gliding sled when you want to cross the map quickly.
The music is part of the place. Walk into the Moonlit Cafe and the playlist crossfades into coffee-shop lofi; climb to the roof garden and it turns green and airy. There are 281 songs by Purrple Cat spread over 16 places, all free to stream and download. Prefer a normal playlist? Every place has its own page, with a full track list and an M3U8 file.

Chat, sit and relax
Residents wander the streets and talk back when you chat nearby. Sit on benches and sofas, order a coffee, play the arcade, skip a record on the shop turntable, go to sleep in the apartment bed or look through the observatory telescope. Customize your character with hair, outfits, hats, glasses and colors; it is saved in your browser. The weather changes by itself: soft rain showers and the occasional distant rumble of thunder, with a quiet rain sound that sits under the music. A calm mode softens the rain, removes lightning flashes and cuts extra motion, and the game respects the reduced-motion setting of your device.
Questions
What is Lofi City?
Lofi City is a free 2D pixel city you can walk through in your browser. Every building is a cutaway you can see inside, every place plays its own lofi playlist, and you can chat, sit, climb to the rooftops, hop on a gliding sled and sit out a rain shower with distant thunder. Is it free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is free and there is no sign-up. Your character and settings are saved only in your own browser (localStorage). The music is licensed CC BY 4.0, so you may use it in your own videos and streams with credit.
Can I just listen to the music without the game?
Yes. Press "Skip the game, just play music" on the home page, or open any playlist page. The player at the bottom keeps playing while you move between pages.
Is it multiplayer?
Version one is single-player: you meet wandering residents who chat back. The chat box and the network layer are already built so shared rooms can be added later.
How do I get around?
Arrow keys or WASD to walk, Space to jump, Up or W on a ladder to climb, E to interact, Enter to chat. On a phone use the on-screen buttons. Sleds glide along the street all day: walk up, jump on (or press E) and ride between the five sled stops, then jump or press E to hop off. Rain and thunder come and go on their own.
Can I use the songs in my videos or streams?
