Not for music streaming services
Please don’t upload the music to Spotify, Apple Music or any other music streaming service. That includes remixes, samples and covers of it, because that triggers false Content ID claims.
How the songs were chosen
Every song comes from the albums released from Bloom (2020) onward, grouped by feel into 16 playlists, one for each place. Label releases and a few older albums are not included. The playlists never overlap, so each song lives in one place.
Questions
What is Lofi City?
Lofi City is a free 2D pixel city you can walk through in your browser. Every building is a cutaway you can see inside, every place plays its own lofi playlist, and you can chat, sit, climb to the rooftops, hop on a gliding sled and sit out a rain shower with distant thunder. The music is 281 songs by Purrple Cat.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is free and there is no sign-up. Your character and settings are saved only in your own browser (localStorage). The music is licensed CC BY 4.0, so you may use it in your own videos and streams with credit.
Can I just listen to the music without the game?
Yes. Press "Skip the game, just play music" on the home page, or open any playlist page. The player at the bottom keeps playing while you move between pages.
Is it multiplayer?
Version one is single-player: you meet wandering residents who chat back. The chat box and the network layer are already built so shared rooms can be added later.
How do I get around?
Arrow keys or WASD to walk, Space to jump, Up or W on a ladder to climb, E to interact, Enter to chat. On a phone use the on-screen buttons. Sleds glide along the street all day: walk up, jump on (or press E) and ride between the five sled stops, then jump or press E to hop off. Rain and thunder come and go on their own.
Can I use the songs in my videos or streams?
Yes, with credit: "Music by Purrple Cat". The songs are not in Content ID. Please do not upload them to music streaming services such as Spotify or Apple Music, and no remixes, samples or covers there, because that triggers false Content ID claims.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The page is small (under 3 MB before the audio), uses touch buttons, and has a calm mode that softens the rain, removes lightning flashes and cuts extra motion.
